Catch the Reading Bug in 2008

Reading gets contagious during our 2008 Summer Reading Program. We'll kick-off the fun for kids at the Kelso City Hall, Saturday, June 21, 10 a.m. with Cowboy Buck & Elizabeth.

Sign up to play the summer reading game and read for fun & prizes! Come to our Bug Jungle in the Library Lobby and see live bugs in their habitats! Butterflies, ladybugs, praying mantis', a giant hissing Madagascar cockroach, mealworms and more! Summer Registration to read for fun and prizes begins June 13!

Summer Reading Programs @ Longview Public Library will start June 24. No registration is needed for any summer programs!

There's something for every age:

Croquet, Bocce Ball, and Boffo Swordplay! Bring your friends and play as a team or come on your own and try your favorite lawn game on the library west lawn. All equipment will be provided. "Boffo swords" are made from fun noodles, PVC pipe, and duct tape.

Volunteer Appreciation

Teen volunteers who have worked 20 hours or more this year will be invited to the Volunteer Appreciation Party at the Hilander Family Fun Center on August 11, 2-4 p.m. We use volunteers all year, but especially during the Summer Reading Program. Volunteering can fulfill Community Service requirements, and really helps when you are applying for a job. It's a fun way to meet people, and there is something for everyone, from computers to arts & crafts to organizing & more!

Book Review: Comet's Nine Lives

Comet's Nine Lives by Jan Brett

My Rating: ***

Comet's Nine Lives is about a cat whose name is Comet. Comet loses his lives one by one. Once he even falls in a milkshake when the health inspector walks in! He joined a fishing boat but was washed over board and one of his lives went out with the tide! It is a pretty good book to share and read to little kids. They love the illustrations.

1. Go Bananas!! Our Literacy Week party blasts off on Tuesday night, 6:30 February 28, where Curious George meets the Literacy Pirates for an evening of bananas, monkeys and "reading with the good eye"! It's all free and no registrations!

2. More Literacy Week programs on Sunday, 2/26, 2-4 p.m. at the LCC Student Center, and at the library on Thursday, March 2, 10:30 a.m. and Friday, March 3, 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 4, 2 p.m.

3. Our Teen Read-a-thon will be on Tuesday, March 7, 6:30 - 8: 30 p.m. It's not too late to sign up to read or make a tax-deductible donation of $50 to sponsor a chair! Visit this page:

Welcome to the Longview Public Library's first adventure in blogging! You will hear much more from our wonderful Youth Services Librarian, so this is just a small introduction.
